Day
1 Reggio Calabria Airport - Hotel
Upon arrival at Airport in Reggio Calabria, you
will be greeted by your Tour Director who will escort
you to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day
will be at your own leisure to either relax or enjoy
the promenade facing on the Strait of Messina. Before
dinner there will be a short orientation and welcome
drink with your Tour Director. Dinner and overnight
at hotel.
Day
2 Reggio Calabria - Gerace - Locri Epizephiri
Morning departure for a guided tour of the medieval
hilltown of Gerace. Here you will visit a famous
Norman Cathedral considered to be one of the largest
in Southern Italy, dated 11th Century A.D. and the church
of S. Francis with its wonderful inlaid marble altar.
Time for sightseeing on your own through the narrow
medieval style streets.. In the afternoon our tour continues
for a visit to the archeological ruins of the Greek
City Locri Epizephiri VIII - VII Century B.C.
(the Temple of Marasà, the Greek -Roman theatre)
Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day
3 Reggio Calabria - Scilla - Palmi - Reggio Calabria
This morning enjoy a city tour of Reggio Calabria here
you will visit the National Museum that houses the famous
"Bronzes of Riace", two Greek bronze
statues dating back to the V century B.C. Free time
to shop or enjoy a walk on the promenade overlooking
Sicily and the straits of Messina, known as: "The
most beautiful kilometre of the Italian peninsula"
. We continue to the town of Scilla facing Charybdis
(Today called Ganzirri). Admire its Medieval Castle
that lies on a dominating position upon the strait of
Messina and its picturesque fishermen's district called
"Chianalea" where the houses are built
right by the water's edge. We end our tour in Palmi
visiting the ethnological museum. Dinner and overnight
at hotel.
Day
4 Reggio Calabria - Pizzo - Tropea/ Vibo Valentia
Morning departure, driving along the Tyrrhenian Coast
to the beautiful & picturesque seaside town of Tropea,
which existed at the time of the Roman Empire, developed
with the Norman's & more so with the Aragonese.
Guided tour of the city centre & cathedral. Lunch
and check in at your hotel. The tour continues passing
through small beachside towns along the coast before
arriving Pizzo Calabro famous for the Castle
were Joacchino Murat (brother-in-law of Napoleon) was
executed on October 18th,1815. Do not forget to taste
the local gelato called "Tartufo"!. Overnight
at your hotel in Tropea or surrounding area.
Day
5 Tropea/Vibo Valentia
Half board at hotel. Day at leisure to experience on
your own. Tonight there will be an exciting Farewell
"Calabrese" dinner with entertainment by a
local folklore group with music & traditional 'Tarantella'
dancing. Overnight at hotel
Day
6 Tropea/Vibo Valentia
Morning transfer to Lamezia Terme for connecting flight
back home.
