The
catamaran departs Malta at approximately *0700hrs
for the 90 minute crossing to Sicily. Arrival at Pozzallo,
a typical Sicilian fishing village, with its imposing
Cabrera Tower from the 15th century. Time for a coffee
and departure for Catania with your local guide
in an air-condtioned luxury coach. On the way we pass
Noto, the baroque capital of Sicily; Siracusa, with
its world renowned Greek and Roman monuments.

Catania:
Catania is the second city in Sicily after Palermo although
many will argue it is the first. A short stop in Piazza
Duomo, surrounded on all sides by baroque monuments
and the central lava Fontana dell'Elefante, the
symbol of the City and a walk up the bustling Via Etnea
wll prove the point. Shops of every description, an
impressive outdoor market and a food market that can
only be in Sicily are all within minutes of each other.
Enough
time for lunch (not included in the price),
you are spoilt for choice. Then, drive up to Mt.
Etna
|

Mt.
Etna,
the largest and most active volcano in Europe. The climb
to the crater takes us through picturesque villages
and an ever-changing landscape. The lower slopes of
the volcano are extremely fertile with groves of oranges,
lemons and other Mediterranean flora and of course vines
which produce Sicily's best wines.
A scenic drive takes us to the Silvstri crater
and the Rifugio Sapienza 2,000 meters up.
Time for souvenir shopping or just relax with a panoramic
view of the vast base of Etna and the effects of the
more recent eruptions.
* You have the opportunity to take a cable car
ride, (€23.00), for a
further 500 meters, where you can have a snack, and
if you wish, something typically Sicilian.
* The more adventurous can further take a 4X4
drive (€20.00) after using the cable car, to reach
the summit at 2,900 meters.
* Cable car and 4x4 vehicle are subject to weather
conditions and are not recommended for wheelchair bound
passengers, or passengers having heart and/or blood
circulation medical conditions. The prices are subject
to change without notice.

From
Mt Etna we cross the Iblei Mountain Range for the baroque
city of Modica.
Modica is one of Sicily's baroque gems now
enlisted as Unesco World Heritage sites.
Guided tour of the city and free time in the main street,
"il Corso", a typical Italian meeting
place with cafés and majestic buildings. Don't
miss the opportunity to taste delicious local sweets and
chocolate made from an Aztec recipe brought over by the
Spaniards! |
Then,
we drive to Pozzallo by
crossing two of the most spectacular bridges in Europe
with a bird's eye view of Modica Alta and Bassa hanging
on the mountain side down the valley.
Departure back to Malta by high speed catamaran
at 21:30hrs. On arrival in Malta, your transport
will be waiting to return you back to your hotel |
